Gerald Kominski, PhD
University of California, Los Angeles

Dr. Kominski is a Professor of Health Policy and Management as well as a Senior Fellow at UCLA’s Center for Health Policy Research. His research involves the costs and financing of public insurance programs such as Medicare, Medicaid, and Workers’ Compensation. Since 2010, he has been focusing on assessing the impacts of the Affordable Care Act’s health care reforms. He has also co-led the development of the microsimulation model CalSIM, which predicts eligibility, enrollment, and expenditures under the ACA in California. From 2001 to 2008, Dr. Kominski was Associate Dean for Academic Programs at UCLA’s School of Public Health. Additionally, Dr. Kominski serves on CHBRP’s cost team.

Dr. Kominski received his PhD in Public Policy Analysis from University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School in 1985. Prior to working at UCLA in 1989, he spent three and a half years working as a staff member of the Medicare Payment Advisory Commission. Dr. Kominski is also co-author of more than 120 articles and reports, and is editor of the textbook Changing the U.S. Health Care System: Key Issues in Health Services Policy and Management, which was published in its 4th edition in 2014.
