Alan Weil, JD, MPP
Alan Weil is the Senior Vice President for Public Policy at AARP.
Prior to this role, he was the Editor-in-Chief of Health Affairs; the Executive Director of the National Academy for State Health Policy; directed the Urban Institute's Assessing the New Federalism project; held a cabinet position as Executive Director of the Colorado Department of Health Care Policy and Financing, the state’s Medicaid agency; and was Assistant General Counsel in the Massachusetts Department of Medical Security.
He is an elected member of the National Academy of Medicine, an appointed member of the Medicaid and CHIP Payment and Access Commission, and a trustee of the Consumer Health Foundation in Washington, DC. He directs the Aspen Institute’s Health Strategy Group.
Mr. Weil earned his BA from UC Berkeley, a MA in public policy from Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government, and a J.D. from Harvard Law School.
